~/about
Hello, I’m Omer
Also known as “Balli”. Engineer, open-source enthusiast and traveller, based in London.
28 years of Linux and UNIX
I started my career in 1998 and have worked with Linux and open source ever since. At a public-sector research institute I ran web servers, DNS, firewalls and backups on Red Hat, SUSE, FreeBSD and OpenBSD, and writing operating-system security auditing guidelines. Since then I have supported Solaris-based telecoms systems serving over a million subscribers, run Linux and Solaris estates for telecoms, GSM, finance and enterprise customers, and worked in pre-sales and post-sales for Linux and security vendors.
Along the way: Linux (RHEL, SLES, Oracle Linux, Ubuntu, Debian), FreeBSD, OpenBSD, and Solaris and OpenSolaris.
Today I work on platform engineering, DevSecOps and MLOps: Kubernetes and OpenShift platforms, secure CI/CD, HashiCorp Vault, zero-trust networking and large GPU estates, across AWS, Azure, Google Cloud and on-premise, for public-sector, pharmaceutical and enterprise organisations. I am SC cleared.
I hold a BSc in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Yildiz Technical University (2005).
